Introducing CROMLahore
Formed in 2021, the Collective Research on Mughal Lahore - CROMLahore - is a community of scholars, sensitively investigating the historicity of Mughal Lahore. The fulcrum of this research is on Mughal period achievements, whilst recognizing the pre- and post-dynamics as relevant necessities to understand these developments.
The Collective aims to organize / initiate diverse public talks, conferences and publications, both online and in print, for the dissemination of their research, concerns and discoveries. While the primary aim of the group remains dissemination of knowledge, the approaches through which this goal is met is multi-faceted. In order to truly bring about change, several actions need to be mobilized at varying levels of the socio-academic orders, in particular within the specialized fields of cultural heritage and conservation.
The Collective is composed of diverse academics, researchers and professionals, bringing with them a plethora of experiences from their respective fields of expertise.
Our Mutual Interest
- To observe and investigate the surviving unique heritage treasures created since the period of early Mughal rule.
- To actively engage in identifying and documenting heritage sites which are of national and local Value, especially those aspects which have been forgotten through time.
- To disseminate their findings through public talks, conferences and publications.
- To train the future generation about the varied heritage Values embodied within their heritage properties, and its significance.
Experience & Expertise
The founding members of CROMLahore, in their own respective interests and experiences, have been associated with heritage research, documentation, conservation and training for over 20 years. Cumulatively, members of CROMLahore have the experience of conducting diverse heritage related tasks, including developing conservation plans, heritage management plans, cultural heritage trainings, history education and conducting focused skill development programmes.
The Collective, itself, aims to set an example of challenging established facts in order to re-investigate and re-acquire the all-inclusive understanding of our heritage. CROMLahore represents a collective that is committed to reviewing and reviving history to the public, especially to those that reside in close proximity to the selected sites.
Currently, all members are engaged with documentation, research and/ or conservation work at several Mughal period sites in Lahore. Their aim is to create an expansive database on Lahori built heritage through their website and through liaisons with other organizations.
